Singapore WaterFest 08 is coming up

June 27, 2008 by kimo · Leave a Comment

All of us at TILT are waiting with bated breath as we await the coming of Singapore WaterFest 08 ( organised by Singapore Sports Council ). Hopefully, TILT can be part of the event again!

WaterFest 07 was a really fun event for us as we were honoured to have had the chance to partake in this event as the Official Photographer. We had fun and lotsa sweat under the sun and erm, water.

For those who have not been there, do join in the event this year! The list of fringe activities for this 6-week long festival spells FUN & WATER for all singaporeans. If the activities stay as per last year, there will be wakeboard competitions, marathon swimming, yachting competitions, dragonboat race and not to mention the chance to enjoy FREE rides on Banana Boats, Powerboats etc. There are just too many activities to list but do stay tuned!

You can still view the website for last year at http://www.waterfestsingapore.com/.

To help promote awareness and attract more attention, we have put up a short slideshow (on the sidebar) of some of our photographs taken last year during the event!

Great Work!

June 27, 2008 by aoelof · Leave a Comment

We received an email from a client ( NTUC – Education Services Union ) who praised us for the great work and quick turn-around which we had provided for their re-branding launch. They have in turn referred us to other unions under NTUC as well as to NTUC. As per our tagline, “Design Matters”, we are truly happy that the efforts which we had undertaken, in treating the project like our baby and nurturing it to a full-grown end product, had been appreciated.

Below is a snippet of the email which he had sent,

“I will like to thank TILT for the great work done for the conceptualising and implementation of the re-branding {en:marketing collateral|collaterals}  and Flash video. Just to share that my bosses were quite impressed by the quality and speed you guys churned out the items.”

Parkway Website

The CIO of Parkway Education approached TILT to design and develop their corporate website today! This speaks volumes of the recent projects (corporate website and print collaterals) which we have done for their sister company, Parkway College.

We also learnt that our client, Parkway College, had also referred TILT to Parkway Health to do up their e-newsletter. They had spoken favourably of us and we sincerely thank our clients for providing referrals after our good work.

And of course, we welcome all comments of our services, whether it is positive or areas of improvement. Our internal service review session, which takes place every three months, will consider all client comments to improve our service level and competitiveness.

Adobe Camera Raw 4.5

One of the important adobe plugins used by {en:Raw_image_format|RAW} photographers, the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) has been released. Includes support for Olympus (who happens to be one of our long-time client) E-420 & E-520.

More information and plugin download here.

E-420 is touted to be the World’s Smallest DSLR, does look pretty flat and cool really. Check the reviews at:

Design Matters: The High and Low of Photographs

June 24, 2008 by aoelof · Leave a Comment

TILT was shortlisted by Singapore Polytechnic for a 5-day corporate photoshoot. During our presentation, the client asked us if we provide contact prints. When we informed them our process is such that we do not provide contact prints, they were pretty surprised.

Perhaps, I can share on the TILT process and why we do not provide contact prints.

After each photoshoot, these are the few steps which we will undertake
a) Download all photographs
b) DI all photographs (the DI process includes colour correction, exposure correction, cropping, etc) [ A tutorial on this process will be provided in the future]
c) Rename all photographs (eg. SAF_HydroSapiens_###.jpg)
d) These photographs will be copied to a folder (named “High Resolution”)
e) A duplicate of the “High Resolution” folder will be made and all photographs will be downsized and placed in another folder (named “Low Resolution”)

The end product which the client will receive will be a CD / DVD consisting of High and Low Resolution photographs. Now, why is this better as compared to the client receiving a CD of High Resolution images with a few pieces of contact sheets?

The reasons are as follows:
1) With the low resolution pictures, the client can immediately email the photographs out to the colleagues instead of passing to the fellow colleagues the CD. This way, it becomes more efficient for the client and the client can save time and do other more important things!

2) With the contact sheet, the client has additional papers on his already very crowded desk. The possibility of losing this can be very high in the long run. With the pictures in a low resolution folder, the client can view them as thumbnails on his laptop and this will never be lost. If necessary, he can zip up the full folder and send them out to his fellow colleagues and this goes back to point 1 again. It saves time!

3) Not every client has softwares on his laptop that can downsize pictures conveniently. As such, if the client (usually from corporate communications) need to post something on the web, having the low resolution pictures, they can immediately post the pictures on the web to form a photo gallery without additional hassel. This again goes back to point 1. It saves time!

In addition, it assists clients who are not so IT savvy to be able to do their job conveniently as well!

There is without a doubt that when all of us are exposed to paper for the majority of our lives, it does take a little getting used to this system which TILT has developed. But do give us a try, this method is definitely useful in helping you manage your large photo library in the long run.

Ouch!

As official photographers for the Singapore Paintball Novice Series 2008 Leg 2, not only did we brave the rain but suffered numerous bruises in our attempts to capture the action photos of the paintballers. One of our photographer had a bruise on his leg with a diameter of 8cm!

Nonetheless, TILT is pleased that the Singapore Sports Council had uploaded some of the photographs that we had taken are on their website.

Starwood Group Battles It Out!

June 20, 2008 by kimo · Leave a Comment

As the event organising company for this team-building event, TILT was on-site to witness the bloodshed paintshed yesterday. Funny as it seems, ladies and men became masked unknown heroes once the gears are donned. All the pellets flying around seemed to be fired by seasoned soldiers. Gender became insignificant and everybody became all-powerful with the weapon in hand.

As the qualifying rounds determine the final 3 teams, the rest of the spectators were awe-struck as these finalists fought on a new, bigger and more treacherous terrain reserved only for the worthy. The final Champion was crowned after the they managed to beat the other 2 teams by planting their team flag into the designated holder.

After the hard-fought afternoon matches, all teams adjourned for a buffet-styled dinner fitting for the “veteran soldiers”. The feast was mixed with fun and food as they were entertained by one of our facilitators with games, prize presentations and a dance with a sexy lady from Jeffrey Chung Models.

Starwood Group Event

And as for TILT, we managed to experience the wildness and fun-loving attitude of Starwood Group staff once again.
