Sticking Together

November 28, 2008 by aoelof · Leave a Comment

In this third edition of photoshoot of the 26 National Sports Association (NSAs), which TILT is contracted by Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC), we will be featuring Singapore Hockey Federation.

When we contacted Singapore Hockey Federation, we had mentioned to them that we only needed 5 players. Not only was the Federation very pro-active in helping us find slots which we can come down for training, they actually also specially arranged for the players to come down 1 hour in advance of their training so that we can have their time, their heart and their soul entirely.

When we arrived at Delta Sports Complex, we were treated to a show of teamwork. While we needed 5 players, Singapore Hockey Federation arranged for the whole team of 18 to be there. When we mentioned to the coach, we only needed 5, they each joked about who is more handsome and should go instead. In fact, one of the youths mentioned “I think we need to select those who are handsome. This leaves us with no choice. I am sorry guys, I have to be one of the guys!” and the whole team burst out laughing. The final 5 who were chosen was treated with applause. For the rest who were not chosen, they assisted them in their preparation. Getting the equipment to the field, arranging things and more. This is the kind of team spirit which TILT was treated to by the Singapore Hockey Federation.

Armed with their hockey sticks and smiles, TILT is sure that Singapore Hockey Federation is on the right track in their preparation for the upcoming Singapore Youth Olympic Games 2010. (SYOG).

Handball’s Grit and Grace

November 26, 2008 by aoelof · Leave a Comment

In this second edition of photoshoot of the 26 National Sports Association (NSAs), which TILT is contracted by Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC), we will be featuring Handball Association Singapore (HFS).

The photoshoot was conducted in Mayflower Secondary School. Being one of the newest NSAs, HFS do not have an official training ground yet and have been very grateful to Mayflower Secondary School and Braddell Heights Community Club to offer their ground for the YOG hopefuls. On the ground, TILT was given a showcase of grit and grace. Their movement in their footwork and fluidity can be comparable to that of a ballet dancer. The strength in throwing the shot or bravery in blocking the shot with all parts of their body shows their grit. After chatting with the coach, it was revealed that there are a handful of athletes with very interesting backgrounds. Some have never learnt handball before and actually googled to find out more and called HFS directly to join the youth training sessions. There are others who came just to give it a try and then decided that handball is more fun than any other game. No matter what the reason is, we are sure Handball is here to stay. HFS has the intention to send the athletes overseas for friendly games to provide international exposure in preparation for the upcoming Singapore Youth Olympic Games 2010. (SYOG).

It’s a Runner’s World

We just completed the first photoshoot of the 26 National Sports Association (NSAs) which TILT is contracted by Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC). The NSA is none other than the Singapore Athletics Association.

Located at the Singapore Sports School, the Singapore Athletics Association was very friendly and helpful in assisting us in the photoshoot. In fact, they prepared 8 athletes for us just for the photoshoot! The athletes were also very cooperative. The long jumpers jumped at least 10 times just for us to capture the correct shot with the right expression. The sprinters blazed past us countless times and the hurdlers crossed all boundaries to ensure that we get it right as well. Judging by the attitude, character and talent of the 8 athletes, we are sure they are on the right track to perform well for the upcoming Singapore Youth Olympic Games 2010. (SYOG).

Return of the Prodigal Son

November 15, 2008 by aoelof · Leave a Comment

Ahmad Latiff Khamarudin announced his return as the prodigal son with a finely struck close range shot in the S-League match between SAFFC vs HOME United played at Jalan Besar Stadium last night to hand the S-league crown to the SAF Warriors. TILT, commissioned by SAFFC, was particularly impressed with Admad Latiff. His history of discipline problems have been well documented in Singapore’s history. In fact, in this season, he failed the Beep Test and could only start playing for SAFFC only in July. Despite all these, his talent was never in doubt. That added to his determination to get back into the squad this season by regaining fitness, his commitment to the team despite the lack of contract talks and his willingness to accept his faults and to change are all values which TILT thinks highly of. His goal truly marks the return of the prodigal son.

Handball Federation Singapore (HFS)’s Outreach Programme takes her first step!

November 13, 2008 by aoelof · Leave a Comment

Since her set-up in April 2008, Handball Federation Singapore (HFS) has been actively setting in place processes and outreach programme. With more people interested in handball, only then can HFS have a sufficient pool of base to put up a credible show during the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 2010.

Run by passionate volunteers, HFS’s outreach programme has garnered some positive feedback in this short amount of time. Below is an excerpt from Hwa Chong International School

“On behalf of Hwa Chong International School, I will like to thank you and your team of handballers, for coming down to my school and showing my students what your sport is about. Many of them enjoyed the game and have indicated an interest in furthering in this sport!”
Jeryl Sim
Sports Secertary
Hwa Chong International School

This is testimony of HFS’s efforts in her outreach programme. In fact, as long as anyone is interested in trying, HFS will be more than willing to share. The promotion of handball in Singapore lies in the hands of Handball Federation Singapore (HFS) as well as their official partners, but the success…depends on the public, depends on all residing in Singapore. HFS hopes you can take this step together.

Design Matters: Sony World Photography Awards

November 12, 2008 by aoelof · Leave a Comment

Competition Alert!

For those avid amateur or professional photographers, TILT is proud to announce the Sony World Photography Awards. We are not affiliate to them and in fact, we will be taking part in this photography competition in our specialisation, Sports Photography.

Below is an excerpt taken from the website.

The World Photography Awards are proudly supported by Sony as its headline sponsor.

As one of the largest photographic events existing today, The World Photography Awards (WPA), reach far beyond an awards programme for the still image. The WPA is a convergence of festival events, focused photographic agendas, exhibitions, awards schemes, student programmes and an industry-led gala evening ceremony which marks the pinnacle of the week-long event in April 2009.

The Sony World Photography Awards Gala and central exhibitions that support the awards’ nominees and honourees, occurs once a year in the prestigious Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France. The evening welcomes some of the most influential names in the photography industry, from press and media to gallerists, publishers, agents, critics, aficionados and the renowned artists themselves.

From fine art to applied photography in fashion, advertising and sport to humanistic and documentary photography of people, social, cultural and current affairs to the environmental image of landscape, wildlife and ecology, there are few subjects or genres left undiscovered. The celebration of the still image – its roots, conception, adaptation and continuous evolution – is a constant parallel, unifying all categories of the World Photography Awards.

We have submitted our entries already. How about you?
