Your Spirit, Our Inspiration

For the 3rd year running, TILT has been covering the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) as the Official Photographers. With our largest team to date (comprising of 8 photographers and 4 photographer assistants), we had a combined 73 hours of photography coverage on 6 December 2009.
After taking a total of 25.6GB of photographs which amounts to 9379 photos, we sat back and reflected on why we had always enjoyed taking SCSM. The tagline of “Your Spirit, Our Inspiration” definitely is definitely apt in explaining the reason.
In all 3 years of coverage, we witnessed the grit of tens of thousands of people enduring a punishing 42.195km route running their own race. There are the elite runners who come in at a breath-taking 2hr 10mins timing and there are the everyday people who push their way through and come in at also a breath-taking 9hrs. Their spirit and endurance is what we should applaud.

Your spirit was shown through friendships formed on the road.
You cheered each other on!
You helped each other as you struggled on!
You continued on the even though you were in a cast!
Your hands raised in unison as you crossed the finishing gantry!
Spiderman, the Witch, a Bride, Santa Claus, Super Woman! These were how some of you had assisted in making the marquee event of the year a more colourful event!
This year, we witnessed how one man raced to the finishing line armed with a bouquet of flowers, a ring and a banner professing his love to his girlfriend.
Your spirit is our source of inspiration. Your marathon makes our race for you worthwhile. We thank the 50,000 people who took part in this year’s Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon for being a part of TILT’s memories.
We look forward to SCSM 2010 and may your spirit be our inspiration again!

In less than 48 hours, there will be 50,000 runners lining up at the Padang for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2009. For the very first time, SCSM has released a viral video. Aptly titled, “Follow the Rhythm, Be Part of the Action!”, it comprises of a catchy tune (music is produced by Koko & Syaheed from Bedsty Music) with vocals from Kevin Lester (Sixx) and very simple moves by Bill Calhoun, the entire video was produced by m:idea from Ngee Ann Polytechnic!
SCSM 2009 is attempting to do this at the starting line. Will you join in? We certainly hope you do. With our largest team to date (comprising of 5 photography assistants and 8 photographers), we certainly will be present to follow the rhythm and capture YOU being part of the action!
Remember, if you see us that day, wave to us! Pose for us! We will not disappoint! See you there on 6 December 2009 in Singapore’s largest scale running event and we hope you enjoy the run!

We are excited!
In a mere 32 days time, the 8th Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2009 will be here again. This will be the third time where TILT will be the Official Photographers for Singapore’s marquee running event.
In 2007, we saw a team of 3 photographers covering the entire route to capture the essence of the event.
In 2008, we saw a team of 6 photographers and 2 assistants working non-stop for 12 hours on race day for the 50,000 runners who were present.
In 2009, plans are in place for a team of 7 photographers and 3 assistants to be on-site to ensure the smooth delivery of photographs for the 50,000 runners! This again sets the record for TILT.
Similarly, in this 8th anniversary, the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon have experienced a sign-up of 50,000 runners in a record time. To further commemorate this special event, they will also be organising a special Race Entry Pack Collection for 8,000 runners to be among the first to collect their race packs.
This special REPC will be held at the Floating Platform at the Marina Bay on the 28 – 29 November 2009, between 10am – 7pm.
Interested runners will need to ballot online to stand a chance to collect their packs earlier. Each runner can only submit their name and five others.
Details of the e-ballot exercise are as follow:
Start Date: Monday, 2 November 2009 at 10 am
End Date : Monday, 9 November 2009 at 11.59 pm
Successful runners will be notified via email and SMS between 18 to 22 November 2009.
We will be there on the floating platform and we hope to see you there!

For the 3rd year in the row, TILT will be the Official Photographers for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM)! With a record breaking of 50,000 participants running the SCSM 2008, we are sure we will be able to witness even more runners taking part in this international event held annually on the first Sunday of December in the city of Singapore.
Come 6 December 2009, we will be ready with our shutters as early as 5.30am and capture the runners who will go through the central business district, turning into the Marina South Park before heading back to the beautiful city landscape. The route continues to the cool morning breeze at East Coast area before returning to the scenic central business district.
For the past few years, the winners had always been from Kenya. Will we see more runners from Tanzania, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, China and other European and Asian countries? Will there be some of you who will come dressed in fancy costumes?
What we are sure is that there will be people who will always be urging you on in your journey to the finishing line. The euphoric feeling experienced when you complete the race is an experience of your lifetime.
And we will be there, snapping these photos away which will unfold the story of the greatest race of earth.

What a blast! After a blazing trail which allowed TILT to end off on a high note in 2008, the relay got off to a thrilling start in 2009!
TILT had just been awarded our very first job of the year! Singapore Sports Council has just awarded the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Games 2009 Editorial and Photography Coverage to us. With a whopping 77 games of coverage, we will be bringing to the youths the stepovers, the flicks, the spikes, the mazy solo-runs and more which their peers will be executing.
Once again, this demonstrates our strength in the sports and education industry. We are truly excited! Are you too?
Watch this space in the upcoming days as we bring to you the news, the athletes and the winners!
The Last Hurray
December 24, 2008 by aoelof · Leave a Comment
TILT received an early christmas present from Singapore Sports Council today when SSC awarded the “SPORTON!” Creative Campaign to us.
The project is to promote the “SPORTON!” website to the youths such that it can become THE Sports Portal for the Youths. This is a project which TILT holds dear. In fact, we had spent numerous hours brainstorming and talking to the youths on what kind of creatives will capture their attention. Through our research, we had understood what the youths are looking out for. Through our brainstorming session, we had come up with a strategic plan to create an win-win situation for all parties through our Ambassador programme.
With a thorough evaluation which SSC conducted, TILT went through 2 rounds of presentation and when we received the phone call today informing us about the good news, all our staff literally jumped for joy! This piece of news had reaffirmed our position in the sports and education industry for TILT
This truly is the last hurray for the year!
On behalf of TILT, we thank all our readers a Merry Christmas and we hope that your Christmas celebration will be as sweet as ours too!
Creating a Marathon of History!

Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2008 (SCSM 2008) registered numerous first on 7th December 2008. They are as follows:
As SCSM 2008 breaks many records, over here at TILT, as the official photographer for the event, we registered numerous firsts as well.
This is our biggest photography event to-date. The management of manpower, allocation of duties and time-management was a great challenge over the 14hour period of the event. Planning took about 2 weeks with several detailed briefs and site recce made.
We applaud Singapore Sports Council in making a huge leap in Singapore’s sporting history and we definitely look forward and hope to be part of the team in 2009 again!

An Ironman’s grit and sensitivity
September 8, 2008 by aoelof · Leave a Comment
TILT has the honour of being the Official Photographer for both Aviva 70.3 Ironman 2007 and 2008. Through the lapse of a year, we witnessed both an Ironman’s grit and sensitivity.
Just to share with those who had missed Aviva 70.3 Ironman 2007, one of the participants stood out amongst the huge crowd. He was not the winner, neither was he last. In fact, he completed the Aviva 70.3 Ironman 2007 in 5h 25m 36s which was not really a feat either. But what caught our attention was that he swam, cycled and ran 70.3 miles with only one objective in his mind. He found his goal, he proposed and achieved his objective. On 2nd Sept 2007, 1.50pm, he achieved perhaps what was an extrodinary show of his sensitivity to the one person who mattered most to him. It is a pity that we did not manage to catch his name.
After 1 year, for Aviva 70.3 Ironman 2008, TILT is not sure if he took part in the event again but we witness another participant’s grit to come out as the winner in this second edition of the Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore, held at Playground @ Big Splash, where a beach-front lifestyle hub was transformed into an athlete village for the weekend.
Rebekah Keat, a professional, who took part in the race suffered a bad stitch during the run. She held on and her grit showed through. She ran through the pain barrier and after the second lap of the run portion, she started to pull away. Boy, was she fast in her run! She ran and ran as if her life was totally dependent on it. When the race finally ended, she came in with a time of 4h 25m 43s to take pole position. The humble pro pounced on her coach with joy after she crossed the finishing line and exclaimed “He is the best coach ever!”
Her emotions took over momentarily and shortly after, she regained herself and smiled to us. Her determination and grit certainly moved us and we hope that with this tale of “An Ironman’s grit and sensitivity”, you are moved and perhaps in 2009, we will be featuring you then.
p/s: If you are wondering why it is 70.3, drop us a comment and we will reveal it to you.

The NBA Madness Asia Tour is a yearly NBA event that tours the region and Singapore is the last stop for this Asia-wide event. This year marks the 1st time NBA Madness is coming to Singapore. The event took place at Marina Square from 5th – 7th September 2008.
TILT is commissioned by Singapore Sports Council to cover the event under the Sport On website which we are doing the editorial and photography support and boy, when we were there…it was truly madness!!!
Girls are dunking (with a little bit of help)!
Guys are dunking (also with a little bit of help)!
Kids were also dunking (also, but with a lot of help)!
The Orlando Magic dancers were wowing the crowd (with absolutely no help)!
p/s: If you want to find out what kind of help they had, just drop us a comment and we will reveal the answers to you.
